Columbia County is situated in the Northern Hudson River Valley in Upstate New York and is conveniently located only two hours from New York City and 30 minutes from the Capital Region. Bordered to the west by the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains and to the east by Massachusetts and the Berkshires.

Columbia County was settled by Dutch traders following Henry Hudson's exploration of the area in 1609. Subsequently, the Hudson River and the City of Hudson both bear Henry Hudson's name and Columbia County bears a rich and diverse history.
